The LSU women’s basketball team has been turning heads and making a statement in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) this season.

With a dominant 14-4 record overall and 6-1 in conference play, the Lady Tigers have proven they are a force to be reckoned with. Led by head coach Kim Mulkey, who is in her first season at the helm, LSU has quickly become one of the top teams in the SEC and a contender on the national stage.

One of the key factors in the team’s success has been its strong defensive play. The Lady Tigers rank third in the SEC in scoring defense, allowing just 58.6 points per game. They have held several opponents to well below their season scoring averages, showcasing their ability to lock down defensively.

Offensively, LSU has been equally impressive. The team ranks second in the SEC in scoring, averaging 75.7 points per game. They have a balanced scoring attack, with several players contributing on the offensive end. Senior guard Khayla Pointer leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game, while senior forward Faustine Aifuwa leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.5 boards per game.

In SEC play, the Lady Tigers have already notched several impressive wins, including a statement victory over then-No. 1 ranked South Carolina. LSU’s ability to compete with and defeat some of the top teams in the conference has solidified their status as a legitimate contender for the SEC title.

The team’s success can also be attributed to the leadership of coach Mulkey. A Hall of Famer and three-time national champion as a head coach, Mulkey has brought a winning attitude and championship pedigree to the program. Her experience and coaching acumen have been instrumental in guiding the Lady Tigers to their current success.

As LSU continues its conference play and looks ahead to the postseason, the team has its sights set on making a deep run in the SEC tournament and earning a spot in the NCAA tournament. With their strong play on both ends of the court and the leadership of coach Mulkey, the Lady Tigers have the talent and determination to achieve their goals and make a lasting impression in the SEC and beyond.
