Coach Mulkey leads LSU Women’s Basketball to Victory

In just her first season as the head coach of the LSU women’s basketball team, Kim Mulkey has already made a significant impact by leading her team to victory in the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Tigers defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 72-61 in the championship game to claim the program’s first SEC Tournament title since 2018.

Coach Mulkey, a Hall of Famer and three-time national champion as the head coach of the Baylor Lady Bears, brought a winning mentality and championship experience to Baton Rouge. Her leadership and coaching prowess were evident throughout the tournament, as the Tigers overcame several tough opponents to reach the final.

In the championship game against Texas A&M, LSU came out strong and built an early lead that they never relinquished. The Tigers’ defense was suffocating, holding the Aggies to just 38% shooting from the field. Offensively, LSU was led by standout guard Khayla Pointer, who scored a game-high 30 points and was named the tournament MVP.

Coach Mulkey’s impact on the team was also seen in the play of her other players, who stepped up in key moments and contributed to the team’s success. Players like Faustine Aifuwa and Alexis Morris provided crucial offense and defense throughout the tournament, showcasing the depth and versatility of the Tigers’ roster.

After the win, Coach Mulkey praised her team for their hard work and dedication, stating, “These kids have committed to what I’ve asked them to do. They just played their hearts out.” She also acknowledged the support of the LSU fans, who turned out in full force to cheer on the team and create a true home-court advantage.

With this SEC Tournament victory, Coach Mulkey and the LSU women’s basketball team have firmly established themselves as contenders on the national stage. The Tigers will now turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament, where they will look to make a deep run and potentially bring home another championship under Mulkey’s guidance.

As Coach Mulkey continues to build on this early success and instill her winning mentality in the LSU program, the future looks bright for women’s basketball in Baton Rouge. With her leadership at the helm, the Tigers are poised to achieve even greater heights in the seasons to come.
